Summer Children's Classes

Kansas City Ballet School students learn progressive levels of ballet technique in a nurturing and professional environment at each level of instruction. Classes, beginning with Creative Movement, and camps are designed to provide your child with excellent dance training and superior attention from our professional teachers, all while having fun!

Currently enrolled students remain in the level they were in during the school year. New students may follow the age suggestions for Creative Movement through Level 1. A placement class is required for enrollment in Level 2 and up. Please call for more information.

Ages 3-5, Creative Movement
Let your child explore the world of dance through movement, music, stories and dance! Each day children are encouraged to develop listening skills and self-discipline in a fun environment. Classes meet once a week.

Ages 5-6, Fundamentals
Your child will enjoy an introduction to the structure of a dance class that includes imagery, musicality, creative thinking, spatial awareness and team work. Classes meet once a week.

Ages 6-7, Pre-Ballet
Pre-Ballet emphasizes creative expression through movement to music. Ballet terminology, introductory steps and barre work will be introduced in this course. Ballet shoes are required for this level. This class is for ages 6-7: just finished 1st grade. Classes meet once a week.

Ages 7-8, Level 1
Level 1 is the first formal level of training at the KCBS. In this class, students will focus on building strength and correct placement. These young dancers will be introduced to elementary ballet steps, both at the barre and in center. Stretching, coordination, strength building and musicality will be major components of this course. This class is for ages 6-7: just finished 2nd grade. These classes meet once a week.

Level 2

Level 2 Summer Workshop
Students immerse themselves in dance four days a week for two weeks, building strength and acquiring new skills. In addition, students will be introduced to Jazz and Modern dance. Placement required for students new to KCBS.

Level 3
In this session, students will focus on mastering their technical foundation. L3 students are also highly encouraged to audition for the Junior Summer Intensive in June. This class meets three times a week. Placement required for students new to KCBS.

Upper School Summer Classes (Levels 4-7)
Classes are offered in ballet followed by one hour of various dance disciplines including pointe, jazz and modern. This schedule is flexible. Class options are available five days a week. KCBS students are highly encouraged to attend these classes to prepare for the KCBS Summer Intensive (June 16–July 18). Placement required for students new to KCBS.
