Restaging a Ballet: Roles, Rules and Responsibilities
As part of Kansas City Ballet’s commitment to engage the community-at-large, we are offering a unique lecture series called Dance Speaks. This series is intended to provide in-depth, behind-the-scenes insight into the creative process choreographers and dancers embark on before the curtain rises. This Dance Speaks will feature Judith Fugate (stager for George Balanchine’s Theme and Variations) and Maria “Maiqui” Manosa (stager for Val Caniparoli’s The Lottery). Tickets cost $20 and are on sale now.

Kansas City Ballet’s Second Company (comprised of KCB II and Trainees), a program of Kansas City Ballet’s School, features young, classically trained dancers on the cusp of their professional careers. Performed in our intimate black box theater in the Bolender Center, this Second Company @ Home performance gives you an up close and personal look at today’s emerging talent.

Kansas City Ballet’s spring production is a showcase of Kansas City Premieres for both new and venerable choreographic masters. Jerome Robbins’ exuberant, jazz-infused Interplay, Val Caniparoli’s suspenseful The Lottery, based on Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery” about a small town’s shocking annual ritual, and George Balanchine’s epitome of classical ballet Theme and Variations all combine to make for a memorable evening in the theatre.

KCB School Spring Performance

This year’s Kansas City Ballet School (KCBS) Spring Performance is Thursday, May 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. This performance features students from both the Downtown and Johnson County campuses. Faculty and guest teachers have staged a diverse evening with students from Level 2 through the Kansas City Ballet Second Company Trainee dancers.

Presented by the 2017 Dance/USA Annual Conference Host Committee
Join us in a spectacular showing of the Kansas City dance community featuring three local dance companies: Kansas City Ballet, Owen/Cox Dance Group and Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company. This showcase is an extension of New Dance Partners, a commissioning project by the Performing Arts Series at Johnson County Community College, that supports artistic growth in dance by creating new work and encouraging collaboration between Kansas City arts organizations.

KC Dance Day
