“The Nutcracker” Scenery: By the Numbers

We are just one month away from opening night of our all-new production of The Nutcracker! We are very excited to debut this holiday classic; a production that has become a tradition around the world and dates back to over a century ago.

In 1892 The Nutcracker made its first appearance in Russia, and 89 years later Kansas City Ballet debuted the now famous ballet. Ever since then, it has become a tradition for many in the Kansas City area. This year, though, Artistic Director Devon Carney reimagines that classic. As this infographic by KCPT illustrates, a lot of creativity, hard work, and even a little bit of feline encouragement went into recreating a masterpiece.
