Kansas City Ballet School students learn progressive levels of ballet technique in a nurturing and professional environment at each level of instruction. Classes, beginning with Creative Movement, and camps are designed to provide your child with excellent dance training and superior attention from our top teachers, all while having fun!

Currently enrolled students remain in the level they were in during the school year. New students may follow the age suggestions or call for more information.
Two Convenient Locations to Choose From |

Ages 3-5, Creative Movement
Let your child explore the world of dance through movement, music, stories and dance! Each day children are encouraged to develop listening skills and self-discipline in a fun environment. Classes meet once a week.

Ages 5-6, Fundamentals
Your child will enjoy an introduction to the structure of a dance class that includes imagery, musicality, creative thinking, spatial awareness and team work. Classes meet once a week.

Ages 6-7, Pre-Ballet
Pre-Ballet emphasizes creative expression through movement to music. Ballet terminology, introductory steps and barre work will be introduced in this course. Ballet shoes are required for this level. Classes meet once a week.

Ages 7-8, Level 1
Level 1 is the first formal level of training at the KCBS. In this class, students will focus on building strength and correct placement. These young dancers will be introduced to elementary ballet steps, both at the barre and in center. Stretching, coordination, strength building and musicality will be major components of this course. These classes meet once
a week.

Ages 10-13, Level 2
These young dancers will be introduced to elementary ballet steps, both at the barre and in center. Stretching, coordination, strength building and musicality will be major components of this course. These classical ballet classes meet twice
a week.

Ages 10-13,
Level 2 Summer Workshop
Students immerse themselves in dance four days a week
for two weeks, building strength and acquiring skills they don’t have time to focus on during the school year. In addition, students will be introduced to various aspects of performance including acting, singing, stage presence, and rehearsal etiquette.

Ages 10-13,
Level 3 Intensive
This intensive meets five days a week for
four weeks. Each day, students start with an hour and a half ballet class followed by an hour of pre-pointe work. Following lunch, student have classes in modern, jazz, and music, as well as an introduction into the world of dance history, choreography and improvisation. The L3 students develop their love and appreciation of ballet while improving their technique and delving into new and exciting areas of dance. Enrollment is done on a first come, first serve basis. 25 spots are available.

Level 3
Following the Level 3 Summer Intensive (or for students who couldn’t make the Intensive), students will meet twice a week for four
weeks for an hour and a half ballet class. This is a great way for your dancer to solidify the technique they have built over the past school year and during the intensive program.

Ages 14 and up,
Level 4 to Advanced
This program for advanced dancers offers intense classes for students whose schedules only allow a few hours each morning for dance classes. Classes meet five days a week for eight
weeks. Students have a daily ballet
technique class, followed by classes in
pointe, variations, modern or Pilates. Dancers may enroll weekly, monthly or drop in to classes depending on what best fits their busy schedule.
