All Bolender Center and Johnson County classes are subject
to change. KCBS reserves the right to cancel or change classes based on enrollment.
DRESS CODE: There is no formal dress code but please do not wear anything excessively baggy. Workout attire is recommended, such as leggings, yoga pants, and t-shirts. Ballet slippers are required for ballet classes and tap shoes for tap classes. If you are interested in purchasing dance apparel, there is a boutique at the Bolender Center campus providing a number of dance items. Other recommended stores are listed HERE.

Ballet
All classes listed include barre, center work and stretching.
Beginning Ballet
Participants will learn the basic principles of ballet technique as well as strengthening and lengthening your entire body in an encouraging environment. (1.5 hours: Low to Medium Intensity)
Int./Adv. Ballet
Open to any dancer, this classically-structured ballet class is designed to be modified so that the level is right for you—meeting your own personal fitness goals. Each class begins with barre work, then center floor, and finishes by either coming across the floor or learning a longer phrase in the center. (1.5 hours: Medium to High Intensity)
Belly Dance
Belly dance is the perfect way for women of all ages, body types, and walks of life to explore, express and celebrate femininity and uniqueness with this mesmerizing art form. Suitable for all skill levels, the class will explore a variety of styles of Belly Dance, including Folkloric, Cabaret, Gypsy, and contemporary. (1 Hour; Medium Intensity)

Boot Camp
Make the most of your time with circuit training—each session is led by a fitness expert who’ll help you target major muscle groups to burn calories, build muscle and create confidence. Participants are encouraged to challenge themselves to push past their normal comfort zone in order to get results. (30 Minutes or 1 Hour; High Intensity)

Flamenco
Participants will learn a wide-variety of fiery Flamenco dance steps, rhythmic hand clapping, and how to exude attitude. It’s the most cost-effective trip to “Spain” you can find without leaving Kansas City. (1 Hour; Medium Intensity?)

Jazz
Filled with inviting and invigorating energy, each class includes a jazz warm up, technical combinations, progressions and choreography. (1 Hour; Medium to High Intensity)

Modern Dance
Enjoy contemporary modern dance technique taught with an upbeat flair. Explore stability and mobility through floor work, inversions, standing exercises, and off-center and extended movement sequences. (1 Hour; Medium to High Intensity)

Nia
Nia is a fun low-impact cardio workout that exercises body and mind, and is beneficial for all ages and fitness levels. Inspired by the Martial Arts, the Healing Arts, and the Dance Arts, Nia blends a range of rhythmic music styles with easy-to-learn dance steps making it the first and foremost “Fitness Fusion” of its kind. Leave class feeling lively, energetic, balanced and grounded, and relieved of tension and stress. (1 Hour; Medium Intensity)

Pilates Mat
This Mixed Level Pilates class is a non-impact, balanced system that works as well for the elite athlete as it does for the injured, or the unconditioned. It can produce results regardless of age or fitness level. Pilates is a tried and true method of exercise for true core development, total body strengthening and flexibility that delivers results! (1 Hour; High Intensity)

Tap
Beginning Tap
Learn basic tap dance steps using your feet to explore rhythm. Dancers focus on clear articulation of the feet to make sounds while dancing in place, traveling across the floor, and learning a dance combination. (1 Hour; Low to Medium Intensity)
Intermediate/Advanced Tap
This quick-paced class is challenging but fun with a mix of tap styles: soft shoe, Broadway, and contemporary rhythm. (1 Hour; Medium Intensity). Pre-requisites include: Time Steps (Single Rhythm, Double Rhythm, Triple Rhythm, Soft shoe, Waltz Clog and Military), Cramp roll, Paddle and roll, Riffs (4 count, 5 count, 6 count), Shim Sham. If not familiar with one of the above, the dancer should be able to pick it up in one session.

Yoga
This flowing (or vinyasa) yoga class emphasizes patient breathing — allowing for an accessible, meditative practice designed to heal and open the body. Suitable for all levels, options are offered to allow for students to make the experience more or less challenging. (1 Hour; Medium Intensity)
