Fall Performance

Fall Performance

The 52nd season will kick off with three new ballets and a fan favorite - Carmen - on October 15-18, 2009 at the Lyric Theatre!

When William Whitener's Carmen debuted to the music of Rodion Shchedrin after Georges Bizet in 2007, Paul Horsley from the The Kansas City Star said, “Carmen is a dense stew of flamenco, ballet, abstract and representative visual art, theater dance and Spanish folk steps.”

Also on the program:

Frescoes (from The Little Humpbacked Horse)
Choreography: Arthur Saint-Léon
Music: Cesare Pugni

“Originally staged for the Russian Imperial Ballet in 1864, Frescoes is a fascinating example of choreography where French Romanticism meets Russian Classicism.”
- Elena Kunikova, Stager of Frescoes

Le Corsaire Pas de Deux
Choreography: Lev Ivanov
Music: Riccardo Drigo
It’s a spectacular piece of Russian technical bravura and fireworks – a favorite of ballet audiences the world over….”
- Music Director Ramona Pansegrau

Splendid Isolation III
Choreography: Jessica Lang
Music: Gustav Mahler

Lang "impresses by the range of dynamics, the urge of onrushing movement in ever-changing and surprising group formations and has [the audience] spellbound with the sheer beauty of her ambitious form of dance theatre."
- Dance For You Magazine

The Kansas City Symphony will accompany these ballets.
