Creative Movement - Ages 3 to 5
Creative Movement (CM 3) - Age 3
Creative Movement (CM 4/5) - Ages 4 and 5

Creative Movement classes are for children ages 3-5. Children should be enrolled based upon their age as of their date of enrollment. Classes meet once a week for 45 minutes. This class is designed for children to learn self-discipline, listening skills, coordination skills, left and right discrimination, patterns in movement, and beginning ballet terms in a structured environment. Pre-Ballet - Kindergarten through third grade
Pre-Ballet K (PBK) - Kindergarten
Pre-Ballet 1 (PB1) - First and second grades
Pre-Ballet 2 (PB2) - Second and third grades
Pre-Ballet classes are structured for the early development of technical ballet and movement. Classes provide a carefully paced sequence of ballet exercises designed to develop physical conditioning and enthusiasm for ballet. Classes meet once a week for 45 minutes.

DRESS CODE for girls in Creative Movement and Pre-Ballet is a simple pale pink leotard, pink footed tights and pink leather full-sole ballet slippers. No embellishments or skirts attached to the leotard. Boys are to wear a fitted white T-shirt tucked into black tights or mid-thigh bicycle shorts, with black ballet slippers or white socks with white ballet slippers.

Level 1
Level 1 is the first formal level of ballet training. Proper ballet terminology is reinforced as the students concentrate on building strength and learning correct body placement. This class meets once a week for one hour.

DRESS CODE for girls is a light blue leotard, pink footed tights and pink leather full-sole ballet slippers. Boys are to wear a fitted white T-shirt tucked into black tights or mid-thigh bicycle shorts, with black ballet slippers or white socks with white ballet slippers.

Levels 2 through 7
Formal training continues as students are required to attend class multiple days per week. Class work continues to focus on building each student’s self-confidence while they learn body strength, coordination and the discipline necessary for learning classical ballet. Pointe work is introduced at Level 4. Various other dance disciplines including Flamenco (Flam), Conditioning (Cond), Character (Char), Jazz and Modern are introduced at Level 4.

DRESS CODE for girls include pink convertible tights and pink ballet slippers (full-sole leather for Levels 2-3) and pointe shoes for Level 4 and up. Leotard color varies by level: Level 2 = red; Level 3 = royal blue; Level 4 = hunter green; Level 5 = burgundy; Levels 6 and 7 = black. Solid colors only. Boys are to wear a fitted white T-shirt tucked into black tights or mid-thigh bicycle shorts, with black ballet slippers or white socks with white ballet slippers. Additional dancewear may be required, depending on level. See schedule and policy manual for details.

Boys & Men’s Classes
In addition to the formal training required of all dancers, boys and men are coached in the elaborate style (or bravura) required of the male dancer.

DRESS CODE for boys includes a fitted white T-shirt tucked into black tights or mid-thigh bicycle shorts, with black ballet slippers or white socks with white ballet slippers.

Kansas City Youth Ballet (KCYB)
Kansas City Youth Ballet (KCYB) is the performing ensemble of the Kansas City Ballet School under the direction of Alecia Good. KCYB students are enrolled in Level 6 or higher. In addition to KCBS classes, they practice and present two major performances each season, showcasing many original works by local and national choreographers, as well as new emerging artists. There is an annual fee of $600 to participate with the KCYB in addition to School class fees. Auditions occur each spring.

DRESS CODE for ladies in KCYB includes a black leotard, pink convertible tights, pink ballet slippers, pointe shoes, character skirt and character shoes (2” heel). Boys are to wear a fitted white T-shirt tucked into black tights or mid-thigh bicycle shorts, with black ballet slippers or white socks with white ballet slippers.

Open Classes
The Open class program at KCBS is open to teens and adults who have never had a dance class, as well as those who have had dance training and wish to continue their dance education. The class schedule is flexible and students can take as many or as few classes as their schedule allows. Beginning through advanced levels are offered in Ballet, Jazz and Pilates and are taught by the staff of KCBS.

DRESS CODE: There is no formal dress code but please do not wear anything excessively baggy. Ballet slippers are required for ballet classes.
