The 2005 Kansas City Ballet School Performance will be Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22. It is a dance production showcasing the talents of advanced students ages 10 to 18 from the Downtown and Prairie Village campuses. The dancers will perform pieces in ballet, jazz and modern. The School Performance is a culmination of months of class instruction. This performance will feature students in pieces by KCB Artistic Director Emeritus Todd Bolender: 1) The second movement of Tribute to Muriel, staged by James Jordan, which was originally created in Mrs. Kauffman’s honor by Todd Bolender in 1995, and 2) March and Gavotte from the Tchaikovsky Suite, staged by Tamara Sanders. Another highlight will be excerpts from Paquita, which was performed by Kansas City Ballet in fall 2004. This piece is staged by KCB Ballet Mistress Karen Brown and KCB Company Dancers Kimberly Cowen and Matthew Powell. Out of a unique and reciprocal partnership, audience goers will also enjoy music from The Philharmonia of Greater Kansas City at the School Performance. Andres Franco, Music Director and Conductor of The Philharmonia, and a quartet from The Philharmonia will accompany KCB Company Dancer Chelsea Teel’s Invierno Porteno from Estaciones Portenas. This was originally performed on March 6 at The Philharmonia’s “Celebrate America and Dance” children’s concert at the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel at Park University in Parkville, MO. Students will also dance modern and jazz pieces set to popular music and choreographed by Tobin James, Angela Arnold and KCB Company Dancer Christopher Barksdale. The KCB School Performance will be on Saturday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 22, at 2 p.m., Rockhurst High School Rose Theatre. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 and under. Please call KCB School at 816-931-2299 or email school@kcballet.org for more information.
