Kansas City Ballet presenting Ballet in the Park at the Loose Park Rose Garden in 2004.

Pack your picnic basket and lawn blanket and join us for a festival of fun, featuring chances to win great prizes and enjoy free outdoor performances! Kansas City Ballet is pleased to announce the schedule of FIVE FREE performances of Ballet in the Park, sponsored by Star 102, slated for September 6-10, 2005, throughout Greater Kansas City. For the first time ever, Ballet in the Park will perform in five area locations. The artists of the Kansas City Ballet company will give audiences a glimpse into past and present repertory programs with performances designed for audiences from all over the metropolitan area.

“Ballet in the Park kicks off our season with a program that includes a repertory favorite, Nine Sinatra Songs, choreographed by Twyla Tharp,” says William Whitener, artistic director of the Kansas City Ballet. “In addition, we will present La Folia which was created by company dancer Matthew Powell. Our informal outdoor performances reach a wide audience including some who are seeing ballet for the first time."

Ballet in the Park has many exciting features for all to enjoy. Kimberly Justice, news director at Star 102, the “family station”, will be on hand to welcome families. Several booths will be open showcasing costumes and props as well as providing opportunities to learn more about volunteer groups that support Kansas City Ballet. Door prizes and give-aways will be awarded. Dancers will be on hand after the performance to chat with the audience and sign autographs on free posters from Kansas City Ballet.
