On March 6, 2005, Kansas City Ballet School had the unique opportunity to perform with The Philharmonia of Greater Kansas City in their “Celebrate America” and “Dance” children’s concert at the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the Park University campus in Parkville, MO. Last summer, Kansas City Ballet School Director Tenley Taylor received a special invitation from Andres Franco, Music Director and Conductor of The Philharmonia of Greater Kansas City, to begin a unique and reciprocal partnership. Kansas City Ballet agreed to choreograph a dance for the Philharmonia’s concert and take students to Parkville to perform. In exchange, Franco and a quartet from The Philharmonia will perform the same piece at the KCB School Performance on May 21-22, 2005. Chelsea Teel, KCB company dancer, choreographed “Invierno Porteno” from “Estaciones Portenas,” which was performed by KCB School students Ashley Thursby, Kim Roback, Kelly Brunk and Hanan Misko on March 6th. The music featured Mr. Franco on the piano, as well as the full orchestra. If you missed
the March 6th performance, you have the chance to see it again at
the KCB School Performance on May 21 at 7:30 p.m. and May 22 at 2
p.m., Rockhurst High School Rosehill Theatre. Tickets are $12 for
adults and $5 for children age 5 and under. Please call KCB School
at 816-931-2299 or email school@kcballet.org
for more information.
