Gala Performance
Choreography: Antony Tudor
Music: Sergei Prokofiev
Set and Costume Design: Hugh Laing

This comic ballet depicts the rivalry and shenanigans of three ballerinas brought together for the first time as part of a gala performance. The ballerinas represent three schools of classical ballet; Russian (La Reine de la danse from Moscow), Italian (La Deese de la danse from Milan) and French (La Fille de la Terpsichore from Paris). The first scene portrays backstage life where the dancers are preparing for the performance. During the second scene, a gala performance, the ballerinas vie for the attention of the audience. The musical selections by Prokofiev are the first movement of the Piano Concerto No. 3 and the Classical Symphony.
